Overview

Wan 2.2 Animate is a browser-based AI character animation tool that brings still images to life by transferring motion from reference videos. Users upload a character image and a driving video, and the system generates an animated clip where the character mimics the source movements and expressions. Built on the Wan 2.2 model family, it targets creators working on short-form video, social content, virtual avatars, and prototype animations without requiring traditional rigging or keyframing. The online interface removes the need for local GPU setup, making character animation more accessible to non-technical users.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on online web-based interface, and no rigging or animation skills required caught me off guard. still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and transfers both body motion and facial expression. Online web-based interface fits neatly into how we already work, and image-to-animation generation removed a step we used to do by hand. Limited fine control over individual movements, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is support for stylized and realistic characters — handled better than most — and no rigging or animation skills required. Limited fine control over individual movements is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. Downloadable video output just works and runs in the browser without local hardware. Output quality depends heavily on reference video can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.
