Overview

uAgents is a lightweight Python framework for creating autonomous agents that can communicate, transact, and collaborate across a shared network. It provides the building blocks for developers to define agent behavior, handle messaging, and register agents so they can be discovered by other participants. The platform emphasizes an emerging agentic economy, where independent agents offer services, negotiate, and exchange value with minimal human oversight. Built around open standards and cryptographic identities, it targets developers experimenting with multi-agent systems, automation workflows, and decentralized AI applications.

Key features

  • Python SDK for defining agents
  • Agent registration and search

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on python SDK for defining agents, and open-source and developer-friendly caught me off guard. still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Wallet and identity management is exactly what I needed, and open-source and developer-friendly. but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Q&A

What are the limitations for non‑technical users wanting to use uAgents?

The platform currently lacks a non‑technical UI; it requires Python coding and developer familiarity, and the broader ecosystem and tooling are still maturing, which can be a barrier for end‑users without programming skills.

Asked by Kwabena Asante · Oct 29, 2025

Can uAgents be used to create commercial services or marketplaces?

Yes, uAgents includes support for agent marketplaces, enabling independent agents to offer services, negotiate, and exchange value autonomously, which is suited for building decentralized AI‑driven commerce applications.

Asked by Constantin Ionescu · Oct 17, 2025

How do agents discover and communicate with each other on the uAgents network?

Agents register themselves in the shared network, where a built‑in discovery service allows other participants to search for them. Communication uses secure, cryptographically signed messages exchanged via the platform’s inter‑agent messaging system.

Asked by Giulia Conti · Sep 29, 2025

What programming language and skills are required to start building agents with uAgents?

uAgents is a lightweight Python framework, so you need Python knowledge and general developer expertise to define agent behavior, messaging protocols, and integration with the Fetch.ai stack.
