Overview

Repo Analyze is a security-tested data-ai skill for Claude AI that provides a one-call cold-start orientation for an unfamiliar repository. It returns a structured map of the file tree, language mix, framework and build-tool detection, top-level dependencies, entrypoints, and README highlights. This tool is designed to save time by reducing the need for multiple Read, Glob, and Grep calls when exploring a new repository. It's stateless, doesn't require network access, and is implemented in standard library Python.

Key features

  • File tree summarization (compact or full)
  • Language mix analysis
  • Framework and build-tool detection
  • Top-level dependency listing
  • Entrypoint identification
  • README highlights extraction

Use cases

Initial Repository Exploration

Run Repo Analyze to get an overview of a new repository, including its tech stack, languages, and entrypoints.

Determining Project Type

Use Repo Analyze to quickly determine if a project is built with a specific framework like Next.js, FastAPI, or Rust.

Pros & Cons

  • Saves time by providing a comprehensive overview of a repository in a single call
  • Reduces the need for multiple Read, Glob, and Grep calls
  • Provides a structured map of the file tree, language mix, frameworks, and dependencies
  • Supports compact and full tree modes for flexible output

Q&A

Are there any limitations I should be aware of when using Repo Analyze?

The tool is stateless, does not access the network, and only provides metadata—not full file contents. For very large repositories, the full tree mode can produce a large payload, so using the default compact mode is recommended for an overview.

Asked by Umar Farooq · Mar 29, 2026

What kind of repository details does Repo Analyze provide in one call?

One call returns a structured map that includes the file‑tree summary, language mix, detected frameworks and build tools (with confidence levels), top‑level dependencies, entrypoints, and highlighted sections of the README. It replaces dozens of separate Read, Glob, and Grep operations.

Asked by Margaret Whitfield · Feb 20, 2026

How does Repo Analyze integrate with Claude AI and how is it invoked?

Repo Analyze is a data‑AI skill for Claude AI. It runs as a standard‑library Python script that Claude can call with a single command (e.g., `repo analyze`). The skill returns a structured map of the repository without needing further network calls.

Can I get a full list of every file in a large repository, or is the output limited?

By default the tool uses a compact tree mode that shows one row per directory with file counts and LOC, keeping output small. If you need every file, you can switch to "full" tree mode, which will list each file individually—but expect larger output for very big repos.
