Overview

Pause App is a tool designed to help users avoid sending regrettable messages, such as emails, Slack messages, or tweets, by catching cognitive biases, emotional tone, and hidden assumptions in their writing. It is aimed at professionals who want to ensure their communication is clear and respectful. The tool works by having users paste their draft message into Pause, where an AI scans the text for biases, tone, and assumptions, providing instant feedback. This feedback includes a regret probability score, emotional tone shift detection, and concrete rephrasing suggestions. Pause App emphasizes its purpose-built design, real metrics, and private-by-design approach, ensuring user texts are not stored or used for training AI. The tool offers a free plan with limited analyses per day, as well as Pro and Team plans for unlimited use and additional features.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is works with common writing surfaces — handled better than most — and surfaces cognitive biases most editors miss. Bias detection may feel subjective at times is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: cognitive bias detection in drafts and helps maintain professional tone under stress. On balance the feature set — especially mindful communication nudges — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on cognitive bias detection in drafts, and encourages mindful, less reactive communication caught me off guard. Adds friction to fast-paced messaging is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. Cognitive bias detection in drafts just works and surfaces cognitive biases most editors miss. Bias detection may feel subjective at times can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Q&A

How does the per‑seat Team billing work?

Team plans are $2 per seat per month, with a minimum of 5 seats. You choose the number of seats when you create your team, and the owner can update it anytime. Stripe automatically bills the correct amount each month based on the seat count.

Asked by Vasyl Kovalenko · May 7, 2026

Is there a team plan?

Yes. The Team plan costs $2 per seat per month, with a minimum of 5 seats. It includes everything in Pro plus a team analytics dashboard, admin controls, and the ability to add or remove members. Only the team owner can manage billing. Seat counts can be updated anytime from the team page.

Asked by Olga Ivanova · Apr 15, 2026

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. Pro and Team subscriptions can be cancelled from the Settings page. Your plan remains active until the end of the billing period, then you’ll be moved to the free tier. No questions asked.

What are cognitive biases, and why should I care?

Cognitive biases are mental shortcuts your brain takes. In writing, they show up as all‑or‑nothing language (“you always…”, “you never…”), mind reading (“you clearly think…”), labeling, catastrophizing, and more. They make your message feel hostile even when you didn’t intend it. Pause catches them before the recipient does.

What happens to my text when I analyze it?

The text is sent to Groq, a secure AI inference provider, for processing. Groq does not use customer data for training and deletes it after inference. No human reviews your messages.
