Does the job

Pretty happy overall. Contextual code suggestions just works and useful for both prototyping and shipping. but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Project scaffolding from prompts is exactly what I needed, and covers the full concept-to-production workflow. I do wish effectiveness depends on prompt quality, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is contextual code suggestions — handled better than most — and familiar IDE-style interface. Effectiveness depends on prompt quality is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Solid for our team

What is spec-driven development? How is it different from vibe coding?

Developing with specs keeps the fun of vibe coding, but fixes some of its limitations: vibe coding can require too much guidance on complex tasks or when building on top of large codebases, and it can misinterpret context. When implementing a task with vibe coding, it’s difficult to keep track of all the decisions that were made along the way, and document them for your team. By using specs, Kiro works alongside you to define requirements, system design, and tasks to be implemented before writing any code. This approach explicitly documents the reasoning and implementation decisions, so Kiro can implement more complex tasks in fewer shots.
