Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and enterprise-grade privacy and IP indemnification. Unit test generation fits neatly into how we already work, and aI code completion and generation removed a step we used to do by hand. but it has held up under daily use.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on aI code completion and generation, and supports many programming languages and frameworks caught me off guard. Best experience tied to Google ecosystem is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: unit test generation and large context window for understanding bigger codebases. On balance the feature set — especially integration with Google Cloud and popular IDEs — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Q&A

What are the limitations of Gemini Code Assist for teams not fully on Google Cloud?

While it works in any supported IDE, the deepest features—like codebase‑aware customization and seamless Google Cloud integration—perform best within the Google ecosystem. Advanced enterprise capabilities also require a paid tier, and the plugin ecosystem is less mature than some competitors.

Asked by Jarrah Whitlock · Mar 25, 2026

Can Gemini Code Assist generate unit tests and refactor existing code?

Yes, the tool can automatically create unit tests for functions and suggest refactorings. It uses the context of your current codebase to produce relevant test cases and refactoring options, which you can then review and apply within the IDE.

Asked by Yosef Mizrahi · Mar 23, 2026

Which IDEs does Gemini Code Assist integrate with, and how does the integration work?

Gemini Code Assist plugs directly into VS Code and JetBrains IDEs, adding an in‑editor chat pane and real‑time code suggestions. The extension connects to Google’s Gemini models, so suggestions appear as you type without leaving your development environment.
