Do you optimize my data?

You have an option to store pictures and videos in optimized form, saving space and allowing for faster shares.

How does sharing work?

When you share a vault you are provided with a secret phrase that differs from the vault recovery phrase. The recipient can use it to obtain a copy of the data. You control how long they keep access or how many times they can open the vault. If you add files, the data is synchronized automatically.

Do you support folders?

Not at this time. Instead we suggest you use different vaults to store different data.

What kind of data can I store?

There is no limitation. Any file can be stored and shared.

How many vaults can I have?

In the free version you can have up to 5 vaults with 100 files each. In paid it's unlimited.

How many files can I have per vault?

There is no limit, but the more files you add, the bigger the vault gets and the slower sharing becomes.

Do you collect any analytical data?

If you give us permission (can be revoked at any time), we collect bugs, crashes and basic analytical information. There are no accounts, identity or any personal data attached. We have no idea who you are or what you are using Vaultaire for.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is encrypted photo and video storage — handled better than most — and pattern-based unlock adds a non-standard barrier. Lost pattern means lost data with no recovery is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on zero-knowledge encryption architecture, and focused, single-purpose design caught me off guard. still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and on-device key handling. Secure file storage for documents fits neatly into how we already work, and secure file storage for documents removed a step we used to do by hand. IPhone only, no Android or desktop, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. On-device key generation just works and supports photos, videos and general files. IPhone only, no Android or desktop can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

What is Vaultaire?

Vaultaire is a local-first encrypted vault app for iPhone. It uses AES-256-GCM encryption with pattern-based keys drawn on a 5x5 grid. Every pattern opens a different vault, and there is no way to prove other vaults exist. It requires no account, collects no personal data, and stores nothing on external servers unless you opt in to encrypted iCloud backup. Vaultaire is built by Wraxle LLC.

Can Apple see my files?

No. If you enable iCloud backup, we upload an encrypted blob. Apple hosts the file, but without your pattern key, it is mathematically impossible for them to read it.

What happens if I forget my pattern?

You are provided with a secret passphrase that recovers the vault. However, if you forget that too, the data is lost. We do not store keys or have a backdoor to the data.
