What can I actually control in Maya with the current version of MayaMCP?

The early‑stage release supports basic scene management (new, open, save), object creation (cube, sphere, lights, cameras), listing and setting object attributes, selecting objects, and listing objects by type. Advanced modeling tools are listed but not yet functional.

MayaMCP is open‑source and free to use. Install it with pip on any system running Python 3.10+ (`pip install mayamcp`). No additional plugins are needed inside Maya.

How does MayaMCP connect to Autodesk Maya without a plugin?

The server leverages Maya’s default Command Port, which is always open for MEL scripting. MayaMCP communicates through this port, so nothing has to be installed inside Maya and it works with Maya 2023 and 2025.
