Overview

VirtualSMS provides programmatic access to real SIM-based phone numbers for SMS verification, enabling AI agents and automated workflows to complete signups and identity checks that require a working mobile number. Coverage spans over 145 countries and 2,500+ online services, with numbers exposed through a simple API. The platform is built for developers integrating verification into bots, scrapers, testing pipelines, or autonomous agents that need to register accounts at scale. Users can request a number, receive the inbound SMS code, and release the number, paying only for successful verifications in most cases. It is positioned as infrastructure rather than an end-user app, so teams typically embed it into their own agent stacks or QA tooling.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: coverage in 145+ countries and real SIM numbers improve delivery success. On balance the feature set — especially support for 2,500+ online services — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on designed for AI agent and automation use cases, and aPI-first, easy to plug into agents caught me off guard. Compliance depends on how it is used is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and real SIM numbers improve delivery success. Support for 2,500+ online services fits neatly into how we already work, and rEST API for number rental and SMS retrieval removed a step we used to do by hand. Aimed at developers, not non-technical users, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Coverage in 145+ countries is exactly what I needed, and pay-per-use pricing model. I do wish some services may still detect or block reused numbers, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Q&A

What is a temporary SMS number?

A temporary SMS number is a real, carrier-issued mobile number you use to receive a verification code (OTP) without giving out your personal number. VoIP and virtual numbers from Twilio or Google Voice are increasingly rejected by WhatsApp, Telegram, and Google. VirtualSMS numbers run on real mobile carriers, so they pass the line-type checks that block cloud numbers. Use one for a few minutes as a disposable number for a single signup, or rent one privately for weeks for ongoing account access. Either way, your real number stays off the service's database and out of the spam and data-broker pipeline. Coverage spans 145+ countries and 2,500+ platforms, with codes delivered automatically.

Asked by Willa Thompson · May 30, 2026

Are these real SIM cards or VoIP numbers?

VirtualSMS uses real carrier SIM numbers, not VoIP numbers from providers like Twilio or Google Voice. Real SIM routes are useful because apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Tinder, Google, and Instagram often reject virtual or reused VoIP numbers.

Asked by Dovid Klein · May 1, 2026

How fast do SMS verification codes arrive?

Most SMS verification codes arrive in 30-60 seconds after the app sends the message. If a code does not arrive, the activation can be cancelled and refunded automatically to your VirtualSMS balance.

Which apps and countries are supported?

VirtualSMS supports 2,500+ services across 145+ countries, including WhatsApp, Telegram, Google, Instagram, Discord, TikTok, Binance, Apple, Coinbase, Steam, and many other platforms.
