Overview

OpenMail is a developer-focused email API designed to give AI agents and automated workflows their own programmable inboxes. Agents can spin up addresses on demand, send outbound mail, and parse incoming messages without managing SMTP servers or mailbox infrastructure. Incoming emails are delivered to applications through webhooks, making it straightforward to trigger agent logic when a reply, confirmation, or notification arrives. This makes OpenMail useful for use cases like signup automation, customer support bots, transactional pipelines, and agent-to-agent communication. The service targets developers building autonomous systems that need email as a first-class channel rather than a manual integration.

Programmatically create dedicated email addresses for autonomous agents so they can send, receive, and react to messages as a first-class communication channel.

Automate signup and verification flows

Spin up disposable inboxes on demand to handle account signups, capture confirmation emails via webhooks, and trigger downstream agent logic automatically.

Power customer support bots

Route inbound customer emails to AI agents through parsed webhook payloads, letting bots reply, escalate, or take action without managing SMTP infrastructure.

Enable agent-to-agent communication

Use email as a transport layer between autonomous systems, with outbound sending and webhook-based reactions to coordinate multi-agent workflows.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on designed for AI agent integration, and removes need for SMTP setup caught me off guard. Deliverability depends on configuration is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Parsed message payloads is exactly what I needed, and simple programmatic inbox creation. I do wish niche focus on developers and agents, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is designed for AI agent integration — handled better than most — and simple programmatic inbox creation. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Install the CLI with `npm install -g @openmail/cli`, run `openmail setup`, and you're done. Setup will prompt for auth and create your first inbox.

Asked by Ximena Torres · Jun 10, 2026

Who is OpenMail for?

Developers building AI agents and the agents themselves. If your agent needs its own email address — for support, verification, or document processing — OpenMail handles the email layer.

Asked by Ethan Brooks · May 6, 2026

How do I receive inbound email?

Via webhooks or WebSocket. WebSocket is recommended for agents: no public URL needed, instant delivery. For webhooks, set your URL in the Dashboard.

Asked by Mireille Dupont · Apr 20, 2026

How does OpenMail pricing work?

Free forever: 3 inboxes, 3,000 emails/month, no credit card required. Pro plan is €9/month for 10 inboxes and 10,000 emails, plus usage-based pricing beyond that. Enterprise offers custom volume.

Asked by Anders Lindgren · Mar 13, 2026

Does OpenMail support custom domains?

Yes. Custom domains are available on the Pro plan and above. Point your DNS records, verify, and your agent sends and receives from your domain.
