Overview

mycrab.space allows users to self-host apps and give their AI agent a permanent public web address in about two minutes. The platform aims to simplify self-hosting by eliminating the need for complex configurations, port forwarding, and monthly fees. It works by providing a 'skill' file that the user's AI agent can read to install one of over 200 tested open-source apps, configure the Cloudflare tunnel, and generate a live URL. The process involves handing the skill file to the agent, choosing an app, obtaining a 'crab address' or subdomain, and giving the agent a prompt and token to complete the setup. The platform is designed for builders and non-technical users alike, allowing them to own and control their hosted applications and data. It supports various apps, including Gitea, Nextcloud, and Ghost, and offers a full API for building custom tools. mycrab.space aims to reduce costs associated with remote desktop, file sync, and URL services by enabling users to run their own versions of these services on their hardware. The service eliminates the need for subscriptions and data storage on third-party servers. Key benefits include minimal attack surface, automatic SSL, and no requirement for devops knowledge. The platform integrates with Cloudflare for secure tunneling and provides a simple way to replace paid services like Dropbox and AnyDesk with self-hosted alternatives.

Use cases

Webhook endpoint for AI agents

Give an AI agent or bot a permanent public URL to receive webhook calls from third-party services without configuring servers, DNS, or SSL.

Hackathon and demo deployments

Spin up a live, shareable address in about two minutes so teammates, judges, or testers can interact with a bot or agent during time-constrained events.

Prototype API hosting

Expose a small automation or agent as an API endpoint with a stable URL, ideal for early-stage projects that don't yet need full infrastructure.

Shareable agent links

Distribute a persistent public link to an AI agent so collaborators or users can access it across sessions without the URL changing.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Fast setup with minimal configuration
  • Permanent URL that won't change between sessions
  • Convenient for agent and bot webhooks
  • No need to manage DNS or certificates

Cons

  • Limited information on scaling and uptime guarantees
  • Less control than self-hosted infrastructure
  • May not fit complex enterprise compliance needs

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Works as a webhook or API endpoint is exactly what I needed, and fast setup with minimal configuration. but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and no need to manage DNS or certificates. Permanent public web address per project fits neatly into how we already work, and permanent public web address per project removed a step we used to do by hand. but it has held up under daily use.

Q&A

Can I test an app on a free address and then move it to a permanent subdomain later?

Yes — and this is exactly the intended flow. The tunnel and the domain are separate things. Install your app on the free temporary address, get it working, then purchase a permanent subdomain. Give the token to your agent and it repoints the tunnel to your new address. The app doesn't need to be reinstalled. The crab is reusable.

How can I make my crab persistent after a reboot?

Your agent handles that too — when setting up, just tell it to make the tunnel persistent on reboot. It will configure a systemd service (Linux) or startup task (Windows) so everything comes back up automatically after a restart. No manual steps needed.

What is a "crab"?

A crab is your permanent address on mycrab.space — e.g. yourname.mycrab.space. It's backed by a Cloudflare tunnel config tied to your token. Think of it as your personal corner of the internet that you own and control.

Asked by Piotr Baranowski · Jun 26, 2025

Which AI agents work with the skill?

Any agent that can read a markdown file and make HTTP calls. Tested with Claude, GPT-4o, Gemini 2.0 Flash, MiniMax M2.5. The skill is plain text — no SDK needed.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The skill file tells your AI agent exactly what to do. You answer a couple of questions (like what port your app runs on) and the agent handles the rest. If you can use Claude or ChatGPT, you can use mycrab.
