Overview

MIDI Agent is a VST and AU plugin that brings generative AI directly into Digital Audio Workstations. Instead of exporting files or switching between web tools, producers can prompt the plugin from within their session and receive MIDI patterns ready to drop onto any instrument track. The tool is designed to assist with songwriting tasks such as drafting chord progressions, melodies, basslines and drum grooves. Output arrives as standard MIDI, so notes can be edited, rearranged and assigned to any virtual instrument the producer already uses. It fits naturally into existing workflows in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase and other major DAWs, making it suitable for both quick idea generation and deeper compositional exploration.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Prompt-based music generation is exactly what I needed, and runs as a native VST/AU inside the DAW. I do wish aI output may need manual refinement, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on vST and AU plugin formats, and useful for overcoming writer's block caught me off guard. AI output may need manual refinement is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and works across most major DAWs. AI MIDI generation inside the DAW fits neatly into how we already work, and aI MIDI generation inside the DAW removed a step we used to do by hand. but it has held up under daily use.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: melody, chord and rhythm creation and useful for overcoming writer's block. On balance the feature set — especially aI MIDI generation inside the DAW — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.
