Overview

The MCP Server for IPinfo is a server that exposes the ipinfo.io API to AI agents. It enables geolocation of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, detection of ISPs and ASNs, identification of VPN/proxy/Tor exit nodes, and generation of interactive maps for sets of IPs. The server can run with a free Lite tier, which provides country and ASN basics, or require an IPInfo API token for most fields. The tool provides several functions, including geolocation of a client's own IP, geolocation and aggregation of a batch of IPs, and generation of an interactive map for a set of IPs. It also includes functions for checking whether an IP is a known residential-proxy exit node and for summarizing a batch of IPs into fixed-size counts and percentages by country, continent, ASN, and/or privacy flags.

Q&A

Can I generate an interactive map of IPs with this server?

Yes, the server offers a function to produce an interactive map for any set of IPs, allowing visual analysis of their geographic distribution. This works with both single and batch lookups and does not require a token for basic map generation.

Asked by Aaliyah Johnson · May 3, 2026

What is required to use the residential‑proxy detection feature?

Residential‑proxy detection is available only through the enterprise add‑on of ipinfo.io. The base tool does not include this capability in the free or standard tiers.

How many IPs can I query in a single request and what happens to invalid addresses?

A single lookup call can include up to 500,000 IPs. Private, loopback, or other special addresses are automatically filtered out and a warning is issued; they are not returned in the results.

What data is available in the free Lite tier and how does it differ from the token‑based tier?

The free Lite tier provides basic country and ASN information for any IP. To access detailed fields such as city, postal code, timezone, currency, and abuse contacts you must supply an IPInfo API token. Most advanced features, including full detail lookups, also require the token.
