Overview

This skill helps surface Claude's assumptions about a phase before planning begins. It does this by analyzing the phase goal, project context, and what has been built so far. The analysis is done across five categories, with each assumption marked with a confidence level: Confident, Likely, or Unclear. Key differences from other skills, such as /pbr:discuss, are that this skill is for analysis of what Claude thinks, not intake of what the user knows, and it runs inline with no Task delegation. The skill can be invoked by calling /pbr:list-phase-assumptions, followed by the phase number. For example, /pbr:list-phase-assumptions 3. If the phase number is not provided or not found in the ROADMAP.md, the skill will display an error message and exit. This skill does not produce any file output; instead, it presents the assumptions in a conversational format to prompt discussion. By using this skill, users can catch misconceptions early and ensure that assumptions are based on clear information from the roadmap or prior decisions.

Key features

Pre-Planning Analysis

Use List Phase Assumptions to analyze and surface Claude's assumptions about a specific phase before planning begins, ensuring accurate and informed decision-making.

Misconception Detection

Employ List Phase Assumptions to identify potential misconceptions early in the development process, reducing the risk of errors and rework.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Encourages early detection of misconceptions
  • Facilitates discussion and clarification of assumptions
  • Helps ensure accurate planning and execution

Q&A

What output format does the skill produce?

It outputs a list of assumptions with confidence levels in the console; no files are generated, and the results are displayed inline for immediate discussion.

Asked by Kalinda Reddy · Jan 26, 2026

What information does the skill need to function effectively?

The phase goal, project context, and any built components must be provided so Claude can perform a contextual analysis. Without thorough context or requirements, the assumptions may be less reliable.

Asked by Gabriel Duarte · Jan 17, 2026

How do I specify which phase to analyze?

Invoke the skill with the phase number, e.g., /pbr:list-phase-assumptions 3. If the phase number is missing or not in ROADMAP.md, an error message is shown and the skill exits.

Asked by Sami Virtanen · Nov 21, 2025

What is the purpose of the List Phase Assumptions skill?

It surfaces Claude AI’s assumptions about a specific project phase before planning begins, analyzing the phase goal, project context, and existing work. The results are categorized by confidence levels: Confident, Likely, or Unclear.
