Overview

Force-link a development or target environment to a Power Platform Pipelines host, overriding any existing association. This skill is used when creating a deploymentenvironments record fails with 'this environment is already associated with another pipelines host', or when intentionally migrating an environment from one host to another. It calls the documented `ManageEnvironmentStamp` Dataverse action. This action is destructive to the previous host, causing makers to lose access to pipelines in that host that used this environment. However, it is reversible by running Force Link from the previous host.

Key features

  • Force-links environment to new host

Environment Migration

Migrate an environment from one Power Platform Pipelines host to another.

Conflict Resolution

Resolve conflicts when creating a deploymentenvironments record fails due to existing association with another host.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Allows environment migration between hosts
  • Resolves environment association conflicts
  • Reversible action

Cons

  • Destructive to previous host
  • Causes loss of access to pipelines for makers in previous host
  • Requires careful use to avoid unintended consequences

Q&A

Is the Force Link operation reversible if I link to the wrong host?

Yes. You can reverse the change by executing Force Link from the prior host, which re‑establishes the original association and restores pipeline access for that host.

Asked by Paulo Cardoso · Nov 28, 2025

What happens to makers’ access to pipelines after I use Force Link to change the host?

The action is destructive to the previous host: makers lose access to any pipelines in that host that used the environment. Access can be regained by reversing the operation—running Force Link again from the original host.

Asked by Gustav Lindberg · Nov 16, 2025

Can I move an environment from one Power Platform Pipelines host to another without losing data?

Yes. Force Link Environment reassigns the environment to a new host by calling the ManageEnvironmentStamp action. It does not delete the environment itself, but it removes the previous host’s pipeline access, which can be restored by running Force Link from the original host.
