Does the job

Pretty happy overall. Browser extension for one-click summaries just works and exports to common reference and note tools. but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on browser extension for one-click summaries, and fast extraction of key findings and claims caught me off guard. Summaries still need human verification is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Where it lags: best features require a paid subscription. On balance the feature set — especially aI-generated summary flashcards — justifies the 4 stars for our use case.

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Export to Word, RTF, and reference managers is exactly what I needed, and works with PDFs, URLs, and many document types. but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and useful for literature reviews and study. Browser extension for one-click summaries fits neatly into how we already work, and browser extension for one-click summaries removed a step we used to do by hand. but it has held up under daily use.

Can Scholarcy process any size document?

The machine learning algorithms which Scholarcy is built upon were trained to work best on academic articles and individual book chapters, rather than entire textbooks. If you have a 400 page textbook, and a 400 word summary, you essentially get 1 word per page! It is also common for textbooks to have multiple topics throughout, separated by chapters. Therefore, it’s best to split textbooks down into the individual chapters, to get an accurate summary of each chapter.

Can Scholarcy extract images from PDFs?

Image/figure extraction is disabled by default both in the Chrome Extension and Scholarcy Library web app. You can enable it in the Chrome Extension by choosing Options, and in the Library by choosing Settings, select the Import tab, and then sliding the Extract figures slider to the right.

The Scholarcy Synopsis provides a narrative overview of the article you have imported in accessible and easy to understand language. Scholarcy’s enhanced summary also provides a more detailed overview of your paper, which you can adjust to use a reading style that suits you.

Can Scholarcy summarize video content?

Whilst Scholarcy is able to generate flashcards from videos, it was designed to work best on academic articles and book chapters, so depending on the available transcription, and content of the video, your results may vary.
