Does the job

Pretty happy overall. Natural language inbox search just works and helpful drafting and reply suggestions. but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: aI thread summaries and Q&A and tight Gmail integration with no migration needed. Where it lags: privacy considerations with AI processing emails. On balance the feature set — especially natural language inbox search — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on aI-assisted drafting and replies, and powerful AI summaries and natural language search caught me off guard. Privacy considerations with AI processing emails is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. AI-assisted drafting and replies just works and cross-platform apps with fast performance. Advanced AI features require a paid plan can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Does Shortwave support SPF, DKIM, and DMARC?

Shortwave sends emails through Gmail's servers, so your existing SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for your domain apply automatically. You do not need to add any additional DNS records for Shortwave. If you're using a "Send mail as" alias with a non‑Gmail provider, your SMTP provider's authentication settings apply instead.

Does Shortwave overwrite or modify my Gmail?

Shortwave syncs with Gmail but does not overwrite your emails. Actions you take in Shortwave (archive, label, delete) are reflected in Gmail, just as they would be from any email client. Your original email content is never modified. If you stop using Shortwave, your Gmail inbox remains exactly as you left it.

Does Shortwave read my emails?

Shortwave processes your emails to provide features like search, threading, labeling, and the AI assistant. Your email content is never used to train third‑party AI models and is never shared with anyone outside the sub‑processors listed above (Google Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Pinecone).
