Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and combines dictation, meetings, and notes in one tool. Open-source codebase fits neatly into how we already work, and meeting transcription and capture removed a step we used to do by hand. May require technical setup to self-host, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on customizable and extensible setup, and useful for both quick capture and long-form transcripts caught me off guard. Feature maturity can vary as the project evolves is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Real-time voice dictation is exactly what I needed, and self-hosting options for better privacy control. I do wish feature maturity can vary as the project evolves, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Amical is a Voice AI app that lets you type with your voice into any app. It's context aware so that it knows if you are writing an email in Gmail or a message to a friend in WhatsApp so that it can format the output correctly. Amical is free and open-source.

How does Amical work?

Amical uses state-of-the-art Voice AI technology and techniques to provide highly accurate transcriptions. The accuracy is enhanced by context awareness, post processing with LLMs and other tricks you can find in our source code.
