Can Scholarcy process any size document?

The machine learning algorithms which Scholarcy is built upon were trained to work best on academic articles and individual book chapters, rather than entire textbooks. If you have a 400 page textbook, and a 400 word summary, you essentially get 1 word per page! It is also common for textbooks to have multiple topics throughout, separated by chapters. Therefore, it’s best to split textbooks down into the individual chapters, to get an accurate summary of each chapter.

Can Scholarcy extract images from PDFs?

Image/figure extraction is disabled by default both in the Chrome Extension and Scholarcy Library web app. You can enable it in the Chrome Extension by choosing Options, and in the Library by choosing Settings, select the Import tab, and then sliding the Extract figures slider to the right.

The Scholarcy Synopsis provides a narrative overview of the article you have imported in accessible and easy to understand language. Scholarcy’s enhanced summary also provides a more detailed overview of your paper, which you can adjust to use a reading style that suits you.

Whilst Scholarcy is able to generate flashcards from videos, it was designed to work best on academic articles and book chapters, so depending on the available transcription, and content of the video, your results may vary.

Can Scholarcy write my literature review for me?

Accepted Answer

Scholarcy is not a writing tool and cannot write your literature review for you. It can however help you to read and synthesize your collection of research papers, and structure your thoughts in preparation for writing your lit review.

Can Scholarcy summarize non-English articles?

Accepted Answer

Scholarcy can summarize articles in most European languages. You’ll find the Highlights, Summary, Comparative Analysis, and Full text in the original language. The Synopsis, and enhanced summary modes will be re-written in English due to the third-party APIs which Scholarcy uses. If you want to read these sections in the original language, we recommend using the Google Translate browser extension.

Can Scholarcy show me papers from my uni lib?

Accepted Answer

Not at this time. Scholarcy needs access to the text from an article to summarize it for you. This means that articles behind a paywall are not able to be processed by Scholarcy. You will need to download and import the PDF to summarize these articles.
